Decorating the Walls--A Monday Minute

Decorating a house is daunting. There is just so much wall space.

I did make some head way with the guest bedroom this weekend though. I'm going for a nature-y, rustic, bird type-theme. Or something.

Planning is a good thing

There is one prepping thing I can do rather well.
During the week I pick out my clothes and pack my lunch the night before.
I have been doing this for over a year and it is a life-saver.
I don't lose all the time I have in the morning trying to rush around getting food ready.

 And I don't fall into the trap of 'I have nothing to wear' and waste time trying to find something while flinging clothes around. Completely avoiding making a messy pile of clothes in the process. So much win.
I hang up the next day's outfit or put it on the shelf
Do I always want to do this at night? No! There are some nights I rather just lay like a lump on the couch. But really, more often then not it is just an automatic thing.

Planning is awesome.

Now, if I could apply this mind set to the other areas of my life. Like dinner planning.  I did plan this week's dinners. I have done it before too. But it's more of an on and off again thing that I want to get better with. Saving us from the, 'What do you want', 'I don't know, what do you want' game. Which is not fun when you are hungry and just want to eat.

Break is over, onto 2014

While beautiful, I don't miss the freezing cold! (Kentucky, 2009)

Baby it's cold outside...
A cold snap blowing in. Nothing below 0 degree, or snow down here, but definitely down into the teens and twenties. Quite a way to welcome back the work week. I dug out the sweaters and wool coat. And two pairs of gloves, scarf, ear muffs…(call me a weenie if you must)

I did get in two runs, but skipped one run. 67% success rate here! Yay...maybe?

6 days and counting until my halves halfs half marathons. Yes two, back to back. Saturday and then Sunday, with a three hour drive in between.
Some how I got talked into this running fun about 3 weeks ago. I kind of trained by throwing in some back to back training long runs for the last 3 weeks. Basically winging it though!
But it will be exciting, a new first!

I have had ample reading time over the last few days. I’m in the middle of Beautiful Creatures on my Nook Simple Touch. I really like the Nook. It is light, easy to use and quick to respond. I’m a simple person. This isn’t my first e-book, but I did just upgrade to the Simple Touch when they were on sale from the original Nook and it is a good improvement.

 Should old acquaintances be forgot... 
As for my January Resolution of more Communication and Connecting it’s going pretty good. I’m answering calls, texts and Facebook postings/mesages. Chilled with our friends a couple of times. I did hide away today though. I had schemes of trying to invite some friends out to the movies today since it’s cheaper on Sunday but chickened out.
Will work on following through with my schemes and not just letting them float away.

Resolution Time

New Year’s Resolutions.
Good ideas that are usually way too broad to keep.
I do so like to try though. My resolutions need to be smaller steps that I can and will do. More verbs. Not just flowery statements of lofty goals. Also, small time chunks because my attention span lasts about 3 weeks. I’m going to stretch them into a month (4 weeks) since it is an easier measurement of time.

New Year’s Resolutions 2014 Edition

I’m going to once again fall back on the account and advice of Gretchen Rubin who wrote “The Happiness Project”. took a whole year and divided her resolutions into the twelve months. One resolution per month. Each month had several smaller/specific steps that she would follow to reach her overall resolution. It’s really a good book and an easy read.

I haven’t plotted a whole 12 months worth of resolution yet. I’m going to create this happiness project as I go.

For January I resolve to communicate and stay connected better.
I tend to crawl into my hidey-hole and ignore the world at times. This leads me to feelings of guilt for not calling people back, letting friendships slip away, missing birthday present opportunities and so forth.
I do like time to myself being the introverted person that I am. But I’m really not that introverted I need to go full on cave hermit.

The break down:
* Call people and respond to calls in a timely manner (also texts)
* Letter and cards are good ways to stay connected
* Reach out and call past friends I let drift away
*Start and cultivate outings and/or groups (book club, run/walk/exercise with people, plan outings more frequently)
